When small interruptions shape the working day
We tried several AI coding environments, including Codex, T3 Code, Cursor, and command-line tools. Each had features we liked. Yet moving between them often meant losing a step that another tool handled well. That took time even when the development task itself was clear.
Working with several accounts and services made the friction more obvious. One environment repeatedly lost its connection to a Codex account, for example after we used the official Codex app. Checking usage and remaining allowances required another program. Each detour was small on its own. When the same detours keep appearing between an idea and its implementation, it makes sense to examine the whole workflow.
That experience led us to build develate Code. The tool is tailored to our own development work and is already in use internally. We are now testing how well it works for two people collaborating.
Prepare ideas where we put them to work
Project work often starts with an idea for the next step. Previously, that idea went into another place before becoming a prompt and finally reaching a coding tool. In develate Code, we can prepare a prompt for the task, discuss it, and assign it to each other. Once it is ready, one person can start it from the same working context.
We also need to know which account will run a task and how much usage remains. The aim is to have that information at hand when making the decision, rather than hunting for it in another tool. Working together will show us whether assigning tasks and accounts this way actually helps.
Built around our own workflow
There are many ways to build software. develate Code covers the steps we use ourselves each day. When one of those steps causes friction, we notice it and can adjust the flow.
That limited scope is a product decision. Adding another path takes more than a working button: we would also need to know whether it serves the people using it well. We can make that judgement about our own work. Our article From App Idea to a Focused MVP explores the same question of finding a useful core process for a first release.

Which recurring task pushes your team to the limits of its existing software?
We look at the workflow with you and check whether existing tools, a process change, or custom software makes the most sense.

What this means for business software
We recognise this situation from client projects. An existing product handles many things, yet the one daily task that matters most remains awkward. Custom software can address that specific task. It does not have to be designed in advance for five other businesses too.
Before building anything, we work out how the job is done today. Which steps cost time? Which existing systems already help? Is new software even the right answer? Sometimes connecting existing tools or changing a process is enough. We discuss this assessment in Funded Digitalisation: Create Clarity Before Building Software.
develate Code is our own example of that approach. It removes friction from a workflow we know and can test ourselves. Understanding the real working day matters just as much when we build software for others.
